The Taste of Paradise, The Famous Painkiller

If there’s one drink that captures the laid-back vibe of the Caribbean, it’s the Painkiller. This iconic cocktail was born in the 1970s at the **Soggy Dollar Bar** on Jost Van Dyke, where thirsty patrons swam ashore with soggy cash in hand. Daphne Henderson, the bar’s owner, created this tropical remedy to help guests unwind, and it quickly became a favorite across the British Virgin Islands.

 What’s in a Painkiller?

This delicious cocktail combines rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, and cream of coconut, topped with freshly grated nutmeg. It’s creamy, refreshing, and the perfect way to escape into island life. The traditional recipe calls for Pusser’s Rum, but if you can’t find it then Mount Gay Rum is just as good, the magic lies in the balance of sweet tropical flavors with that nutmeg kick.

 Painkiller Recipe:

  • 4 oz Pineapple Juice
  • 1 oz Orange Juice
  • 1 oz Cream of Coconut
  • 2 oz Dark Rum (Pusser’s preferred)
  • Fresh Grated Nutmeg

Shake Shake Shake all ingredients with ice, pour into a glass, and garnish with nutmeg.

 A Little Pain, All Gain

Sipping a Painkiller is like a mini vacation in a glass—whether you’re lounging at the Soggy Dollar Bar or dreaming of the beach from home. It’s the ultimate tropical cocktail to melt your worries away. Remember, it’s always **Painkiller o’clock** somewhere!
